Roof rats have become a serious and growing problem in Tucson since 2021. Multiple isolated populations have established themselves across the city and surrounding communities. Unlike pack rats which are native to the Sonoran Desert, roof rats are an invasive species and their spread is a genuine concern for the region.
Roof rats are highly intelligent, excellent climbers and extremely cautious around new objects in their environment. This makes them significantly more difficult to trap than other rodents and requires patience, experience and careful placement to be effective. Equally important is finding and sealing every entry point they are using, as trapping alone will not solve the problem if new rats can continue entering the structure.
Do not live trap and relocate roof rats.
Live trapping and relocating roof rats is one of the primary reasons new populations have appeared in previously unaffected parts of Tucson. When relocated, they simply establish new colonies elsewhere. Responsible control means eliminating the problem, not moving it. We use kill traps only and do not offer relocation services for roof rats.
Mice are one of the most common indoor rodent problems in Tucson homes. They are small, fast-reproducing and can squeeze through gaps as small as a dime. Once inside, they contaminate food, chew through wiring and insulation and leave droppings throughout the home.
Effective mouse control requires indoor trapping combined with exclusion work to seal the entry points they are using to get in. Trapping alone without finding and closing those gaps will result in ongoing problems as new mice continue finding their way inside.
Exclusion is essential for both roof rats and mice.
For both species, identifying and sealing entry points is a critical part of the solution. Trapping removes the rodents that are already inside. Exclusion keeps new ones from getting in. We address both as part of every service.
Thorough inspection
We identify the species, locate entry points, assess activity levels and determine the best approach for your specific situation before any work begins.
Strategic trapping
Traps are placed carefully based on rodent behavior and activity patterns. Roof rats in particular require deliberate placement and technique given how cautious and trap-shy they can be.
Exclusion
We identify and seal the entry points rodents are using to access your home. This step is essential for both roof rats and mice to prevent new rodents from continuing to enter the structure after trapping is complete.
Limited attic sanitizing
Where needed we address contaminated areas in attics and other spaces to remove droppings, nesting material and the health risks that come with them.
